Titus 1:10-16

June 1, 2008

With all that has been going on with the invitation only meeting that Pastor Bob Dewaay and Chris Rosebrough had with Rick Warren it would be wise to turn to scripture. It really doesnt matter what comments or spin is put on all this by anyone but what scripture teaches. I am not implying though that either Bob or Chris are putting any spin on this at all.

This business with Rick Warren is very serious business because thousand’s are being deceived.

Look at the following verses this is how the Bible teaches to deal with false teachers. Tim

Titus 1:10-16 & Titus 2:1

10 For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth. 15 To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

“Qualities of a Sound Church”

1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:

This sounds pretty straight up to me.

Look again at verse 16 “They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.”

I believe this speaks to Rick Warren. No matter what Rick agrees on as far as doctrine goes this does not come out through his methods, ministry, or preaching.

Has Rick ever preach soundly? Yes I would say on occasion he has. But in Rick wanting to be all things to all men he only plays to the crowd. If Rick really believed in the doctrine he supposedly agrees with it would come out unashamed in Ricks preaching and methods of doing church. Rick would not be afraid of losing his popularity or wealth but indeed preach the gospel without compromise.

Will Rick do this?

I do believe from observing Warren for many years that he will probably (for a time) do this. We will have to wait and see. But this may be done so Richard Abanes can come out and say look Rick does preach sound doctrine here and here.

I want to see the long term effect of this.

And it will first need to start with Rick Warren repenting of being a false preacher, stepping down as pastor and getting some council from biblical sound pastors and teachers.

That needs to happen first before I will believe anything Rick Warren has to say no matter how good it may sound in the moment.
